The Future of the Age of AI and Why We Should Be Concerned

Artificial Intelligence, also known as AI, has grown exponentionally over the last few years, especially through various breakthroughs and experiments made by various individuals. As time has passed, there have also been many attempts to "mix" AI and human intelligence together to have a positive impact.

Despite this, many people have shown disapproval of the technology, with some stating they could be used to exploit and take advantage of other human beings, as evident through cybercriminals misusing AI for their own malicious and personal gain.

One of the most horrifying examples of the use of technology actually revolves around the FRONTLINE series' fifth episode of its thirty-eighth season, "In the Age of AI," with part of the latter half of the episode involving the Chinese government's use of AI.

In the episode, the narrator describes China as a powerful country that has become stronger due to the government's ability to use AI as a complex surveillance system. There are over 600 million cameras watching citizens every day to make sure they are not plotting anything against the government or something similar.

In some cases, these systems are used to discourage jaywalking and other small acts, while in other cases, the faces of people who commit said acts are shown to the general public so they are aware of the fact that "the state is watching."

According to Xiao Qiang, a Research Scientist from the University of California, Berkeley, this system is part of a project known as Sharp Eyes, which aims to place a camera "on every major street and the corner of every village in China-- meaning everywhere."

If these issues in terms of a general invasion of privacy are very evident in China, then chances are they could be a larger problem in the United States than we initially expected it to be. However, one major difference between China and the U.S. is the fact that the Amendments allow for the right to general privacy and freedom of speech, as evident through the First and Fourth Amendments in general.

Despite this, there are still some very slim chances that the U.S. might take advantage of Artificial Intelligence in a very malicious manner. The government could change some rules and ideas around to fully spy on its citizens throughout the entire country.

Simply put, people will most likely have to keep on fighting in order to prevent AI from being used in such a way, especially since it will be extremely difficult to stop it from growing, given the aforementioned constant breakthroughs and discoveries as a whole.
