Technology is a fascinating topic to talk about in various aspects, especially since it has impacted many of our lives over the last few decades. The first recorded instances of technology actually date back to over three million years ago, with stones having been used as knives and hammers by a group that predates ours.
The most well-known and second oldest recorded example regarding the usage of technology as a whole was fire, with evidence of burnt materials being found in caves used by Homo erectus, an extinct human species that lived over a million years ago.
Despite this, when we think of the term "technology" in today's times, we usually associate it with computers, phones, and the internet, among other electronic devices.
In terms of the more "electronic" aspect of technology, there are many jobs in our world that require its usage to a higher level than others, including those in Game Design.
Almost every job in the Game Design field requires at least one type of device to fulfill certain requests and tasks, especially since many of the programs and games are dependent on electronic devices as a whole.
Because of this, it can be difficult for me at times to answer the question, "Do you think your relationship with technology is healthy?" since I am practically surrounded by it almost every single day.I use my laptop and my phone on an almost daily basis to check on various apps and programs, such as YouTube, Twitter, and Discord. These programs help me keep up with current events, in addition to chatting with friends and family.
However, there are times when I like to mostly take a break from technology and focus on myself, such as when I am exercising, eating, hanging out with friends in person, or watching a movie in a theater.
Technology as a whole has really helped me become smarter in terms of working with specific ideas and information, in addition to also making sure I know what is real and what is fake online, especially with the rise of online misinformation and fake news.
Despite all the positives, there are also times when I worry that technology might be going too far, given the recent popularity of artificial intelligence, which causes people to take advantage of various pieces of content to make their own unoriginal work, as evident with AI art and videos, in addition to other more-complex types, such as deep fakes and paragraphs made by services like ChatGPT.
My friends and family have also been impacted by technology, but in a different way, since they use it more for social media and general work instead. As previously mentioned, I can keep in touch with those who are farther away from where I live because of technology, since it allows me to talk to them as if they were with me in person.
However, sometimes the overuse of online interactions could make meeting in person pointless in some scenarios, which is why I usually avoid texting with them too much.
This idea also applies to my online presence, which I do not focus on as much at the moment, since I prefer to focus on more important factors first. Because of this, it would be difficult to find anything regarding myself online.
Overall, technology is something that I might have to deal with for the rest of my life, but if I continue to make the right choices and actions, I can keep turning it into a more positive idea than a negative one.
