My Top Five Sources of News and Information

In terms of news, my sources might be all over the place. Since I live in a Puerto Rican household, lots of people might have never even heard of said sources. Despite this, I do usually take a look at some more well-known platforms as well. Below are five of the sources I have been using the most throughout most of my life:

1. Telemundo - Telenoticias

Telemundo is a Latin American Spanish-language network that revolves around various programs, such as soap operas, talk shows, reality shows, and in this case, news. To provide information about the latter, the network uses a program known as "Telenoticias." Though said program is in Spanish due to its origins, much of the news seen throughout both their segments on TV and their social media revolves around both local and national news.

The main reason why I know much about this program in the first place is due to my parents, who watch it on an almost daily basis as part of their routines. Overall, I would recommend anyone who knows Spanish to take a look at Telenoticias to learn more about how Latin American news sources work.

2. TikTok - Bikini Bottom News

TikTok is known by many to be a social media platform in which anyone can post anything, including news. My news source in particular, while not the main source, is one that is popular and well-known throughout the platform, which is known as Bikini Bottom News. The account is based on the fictional news source of the same name from the television series Spongebob Squarepants, in which a talking realistic fish head serves as the news reporter, showcasing various events and occurrences.

Despite the initial comedic nature of the account, it does include real and authentic reports, with some of the most recent topics including the Israel-Hamas conflicts and various disasters. Overall, I would recommend this news source to anyone who would like to reminisce about the past in terms of their childhood while also learning more about the present.

3. WAPA-TV - NotiCentro

This news source is another Spanish network that is normally seen by my parents throughout their routines, and since the main parts of said source usually occur during the mornings, I have looked at them frequently as well. WAPA-TV and NotiCentro serve as competitors of sorts to Telemundo and Telenoticias respectively, especially since they provide most of the same topics as the latter group. In short, I would recommend this as another source of what Latin American news is like.

4. X/Twitter

X, or Twitter, is another common social media platform that revolves around various topics alongside news. In most cases, news articles appear randomly throughout my timeline with posts from accounts I follow. However, they still have the same impact as other sources, especially since some accounts on X/Twitter appear to know about certain topics minutes or even hours before they're fully broadcasted to other programs and platforms.

Because of this, I believe the platform is a good source for many stories and topics as a whole. Given its popularity, a lot of people most likely already have X/Twitter in one way or another due to its easy accessibility, despite current circumstances.

5. YouTube

Lastly, YouTube is one of the most popular news sources of recent history, given its easy-to-upload format, in addition to being able to be seen worldwide, allowing for various versions of news stories. Additionally, there is an entire News channel that includes various up-to-date videos on current topics.

Many news stations are known to upload clips and snippets of various topics in order to show to those using YouTube as their main source. Overall, the aforementioned portions, among other parts, are some of the largest reasons why people use the social media platform as a news source to this very day.
